Current Membership Requirements and Procedures

Any elementary, middle school, or high school student who:

1. is currently enrolled in a course in Latin or Greek; or
2. has completed two units of study in Latin or Greek; or
3. is currently enrolled in a course in classical humanities.

(Note: any school that has problems meeting the above requirements due to block scheduling should contact Mrs. Sloan for further instructions)

Any school that has five or more JCL members and has a qualified sponsor shall constitute a 'chapter' of the JCL.

Each chapter must have a sponsor who is a Latin teacher, humanities teacher or other adult approved by the State Chairs. This sponsor, who will be responsible for chapter activities, must be a member of the American Classical League (ACL) or must join ACL upon application to be a JCL chapter sponsor.

Each chapter may elect officers to conduct business, organize activities, etc.

Each student must pay membership dues of $2.00 for NJCL membership and $3.00 for TJCL membership. A student must be a member of both organizations. In addition, each chapter must pay a $10.00 NJCL registration fee with the initial application, unless this is your first year. All Tennessee Junior Classical League chapters must pay a $10.00 registration fee. Unless a sponsor is already a member of the American Classical League, ACL annual dues of $35.00 must be included with the application or must be mailed to the ACL office separately. If you are a brand new chapter or JCL sponsor, please read on!

Any sponsor who has not previously been a member of JCL may waive the first year's ACL dues ($45.00). Also, brand new JCL chapters may waive the $10.00 NJCL and TJCL chapter registration fees - that means you can join JCL for just $5 per student!
